Bought Johns Controls (JCI) and GE options

Purchased 3  of VQU Jan 22 2011 22.5 Call.  On March 11, 2010 S&P set a $39.00 12-Month price target for JCI which is currently trading at $5.62 below that target.  Barchart notes JCI as a long term buy.  The current 60day moving average runs in excess of $1 / share per month.  In 3 – 4 months the call should be worth $1500 more.

Purchased 5 of VGE 2011 15.0 Call.  On November 20, 2009 S&P set a $19.00 12-Month price target for GE which is currently trading at $0.67 below that target.  The stock is out performing the analysts expectations.  Barchart notes GE as a strong long term buy.  There was a large bump in price in March.  The 60 day moving average is trending upward.  I believe as the economy continues to grow, so will GE.  Looking for a 10% jump in option price in the next week.  I will jump back out if I do not see it.

We win, they lose.’

Tomatoes – round two

I replanted tomatoes last week. The February batch is doing great, but I’m afraid I started them about two weeks too early. We will see. Maybe we will have an early spring, and I can get them in the garden.  I’m also trying out the “wall o water” teepees again this year.  They seemed to provide the plants with enough protection to go in a couple of weeks early.

For now, I have a grow light, and I’m not fertilizing at all.  More to come

Olive Garden Alfredo Sauce

This is a great version of an Olive Garden like Alfredo Sauce.  Lots of calories, but enjoy.

Ingredients:
1 pint heavy (whipping) cream
1 stick butter
2 tablespoons cream cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon minced garlic

Cooking Directions:
In a saucepan combine butter, cream, and cream cheese.  Simmer until everything melted.  Add the Parmesan and garlic.  Simmer for 15 minutes.  Season to taste.  Replace cream with 1/2 n 1/2 to lighten it up.

John Kennedy once said

John Kennedy once said to an assembled group of scholars in the White House:

“I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”

The quotes below could prove his point.

  • When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.

Thomas Jefferson

  • The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

Thomas Jefferson

  • It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.

Thomas Jefferson

  • I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

Thomas Jefferson

  • My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

Thomas Jefferson

  • No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.

Thomas Jefferson

  • The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

Thomas Jefferson

  • The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Thomas Jefferson

In light of the present financial crisis, it’s interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.”
